CSI Madhya Kerala Diocese is one of the twenty-four dioceses of the Church of South India, serving the central region of Kerala with a strong commitment to faith, education, and social service. Established in 1947 at the formation of the Church of South India, the Diocese was originally known as the Diocese of Central Travancore and was later renamed the Diocese of Madhya Kerala. Its roots trace back to the historic Anglican Diocese of Travancore and Cochin founded in 1879.
Blessed with a rich Christian heritage dating to the first century, Kerala has long been a centre of spiritual and educational advancement. The Diocese draws inspiration from the pioneering efforts of early missionaries—particularly the Church Missionary Society (CMS) understanding of education as a means of social transformation. These efforts opened the doors of liberal English education in Kerala and laid the foundation for modern learning.
Today, the CSI Madhya Kerala Diocese oversees 400+ congregations across Kerala, with additional congregations across India and abroad, and manages 149 educational institutions, including 7 colleges. Guided by enduring Christian values, the Diocese continues to promote excellence in education, ethical leadership, and service to society—principles that shape and strengthen institutions like CSI College for Legal Studies (CSICLS).
